Description: The Green Mosaic, originally "the Garden District" (2010) grew dually out of Demonstration Gardens' commitment to and observations of the Central YMCA community as it became displaced by development in the Tenderloin. (The building still stands at 220 Golden Gate, converted into a housing project). In responding to life-seeking impulses of our neighborhood in all its diversity we learned that the most important resource in caring for our commons is human and one size doesnt fit all
A diverse ecology builds a stronger ecosystem. What is built out of corrption can be composted and regenerated. We support the impulses of the Tenderloin Peoples Congress, Neighborhood Action Plan, which seeks to build capacity for design, study, planning lead by residents, for us, by us,the people already here to have the access to Nature and quality of life that all people deserve.
Like beads connected by a common thread, the goal of the Green Mosaic, is to connects many diverse places and the people who support them with common resources for greater resilience.
